In the 2023 USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards, the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration earned runner-up honors for Best Place to See Fireworks in America. The recognition places Idaho Falls alongside cities like New York and Washington, D.C., which is exactly the kind of company this show has earned.
USA TODAY acknowledged what makes the recognition unusual: that a small city in rural Idaho is putting on a fireworks display that holds its own against the country’s biggest metropolitan shows. For more than two decades, this celebration has done exactly that, launching more than 18,000 shells over the Snake River in a tribute choreographed to honor America’s Founding Fathers and its veterans.
The July 4th celebration runs all day. A morning parade, live music, food vendors, helicopter rides, and a kids’ play zone fill the hours before the fireworks begin. More than 200,000 people typically gather at Snake River Landing to take part.
The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration is free to the public and fully funded by Melaleuca: The Wellness Company. Every shell fired and every note of music is part of a tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed to protect the freedom we celebrate each Fourth of July.
