Melaleuca’s Largest Freedom Celebration Ever is Expected to be its Last

We will celebrate America’s 250th birthday with 18,915 magnificent explosions

Guaranteed to be the largest fireworks show west of the Mississippi

Documented to be one of the five largest fireworks displays in nation

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — June 18, 2026 — As the United States turns 250 years old, the 33rd Annual Melaleuca Freedom Celebration is preparing to deliver its most meaningful tribute yet with 31 minutes of patriotic music and narration choreographed note for note and shell for shell with 18,915 dazzling shells in the air.

The 2026 Melaleuca Freedom Celebration will honor America’s founding and freedoms, while paying tribute to the 1.2 million men and women who have given their lives in defense of the United States. The free fireworks display is the largest fireworks show west of the Mississippi River and one of the nation’s largest Fourth of July fireworks productions.

The 2026 Melaleuca Freedom Celebration takes place in Idaho Falls on Saturday, July 4, beginning at 10:03 p.m. It will average more than 610 fireworks per minute, or more than 10 fireworks every second.

“For the last 33 years, the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration has given families a way to gather, celebrate America and remember the price that has been paid for our freedom,” said Melaleuca Executive Chairman Frank VanderSloot. “As America celebrates 250 years of independence, we want this year’s show to be the most powerful tribute we have ever produced.”

Each year, the celebration has continued to grow in size and attendance, requiring a venue large enough to safely accommodate large crowds, thousands of vehicles and the safety zone needed for fireworks. It also depends on high-capacity roadways, traffic management and event infrastructure capable of supporting a crowd that police have estimated at over 220,000 spectators.

Most Likely the Final Year

This is expected to be the final year for the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration that has become one of Idaho’s most beloved Fourth of July traditions.

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration and Riverfest, are expected to end after 2026 unless a suitable new venue becomes available.

Frank VanderSloot: “The venue at Snake River Landing has allowed Melaleuca to produce one of the five largest shows in the nation. Unfortunately, the property that has been used for the event is now being developed into housing and industry. So, this is our last year. We are grateful for the use of this unique venue for the past 10 years, and we certainly defend Ball Ventures’ right to develop it as it was originally intended. They have been wonderful to work with. You need huge open spaces to produce a large show of this scale for both safety and for audience size. You also need parking for tens of thousands of cars. A venue like this is just not yet available in Bonneville County.”

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration has a history of moving when necessary. It began at Ravsten Stadium, later moved to the Johns Hole boat dock on the Greenbelt near downtown Idaho Falls, and then relocated to Snake River Landing after public safety concerns made a larger venue necessary.

But as Snake River Landing continues to develop, the open land required to accommodate a celebration of this scale is no longer expected to be available.

At this time, Melaleuca is not aware of another venue in the area that can meet the event’s size, safety, infrastructure, parking and traffic needs. Creating or preparing such a venue would require significant public investment because an event of this size requires far more than open space.

We are grateful for Ball Venture’s previous donation of their land. They originally committed to making Snake River Landing available for five years. They have kept their promise to the community. In fact, instead of the promised five years, these Independence Day events have now been held there for 10 years. We give a big thank you to Ball Ventures for providing a beautiful venue that allowed the community to gather for memorable Fourth of July fireworks displays over the past decade.

The Future: If the community or others are able to make another suitable venue available, in the future, Melaleuca would gladly provide the fireworks show.

A Larger Show for a Historic Fourth of July

The United States’ 250th anniversary gives this year’s Melaleuca Freedom Celebration special meaning.

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration will go out with a bang! This year’s show will feature 18,915 magnificent shells in the air, making it the biggest fireworks display in Idaho’s history, preserving what has made it meaningful for more than three decades: a choreographed combination of fireworks, music and narration that honors America’s heroes.

The 2026 show includes even more of the larger 5-, 6- and 8-inch shells, which climb roughly 500 to 800 feet into the sky and break approximately that same distance wide.

A Tradition Rooted in Gratitude

Melaleuca recognizes that the celebration has become part of many families’ Fourth of July traditions and is grateful for the community support that has made it possible.

Frank VanderSloot: “It is so hard for me to believe that this wonderful tradition is going to end. Like other families, it has become a significant yearly tradition for our family and for our company. I have loved every minute of it! The 4th of July has been one of my favorite days of the year since I was 6 years old. Riverfest was getting so amazing! And more people showed up every year. Each 4th of July, our home fills with grandkids. It is wonderful! I want to thank the Idaho Falls community for their tremendous support for the past 33 years. We will continue to find ways to make this day special in honor of the veterans who gave their life for our country and our freedoms. We will look for a new venue if one becomes available. We are guessing it might take a few years and several million dollars to develop. We will work with the community to find solutions. In the meantime, we will continue to celebrate our nation and our freedom each 4th of July with our families and as a community.”

Bring a Radio! Soundtrack Broadcast on Classy 97 KLCE

The fireworks are synchronized shot-for-shot and note-for-note with a recorded soundtrack of narration, patriotic messages and music. It will be broadcast live on Classy 97 KLCE.

Spectators at Snake River Landing will hear the soundtrack through a network of 100 professional-grade wireless speakers provided by Melaleuca.

Those watching from farther away should bring a radio. They are encouraged to listen on a traditional handheld radio or a car radio rather than a digital HD radio, streaming service or smartphone app. This is important because digital delays can cause the soundtrack to fall out of sync with the fireworks.

Family Fun Before the Fireworks

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration serves as the grand finale to a full day of family-friendly Independence Day activities in Idaho Falls.

The day begins with the Idaho Falls Liberty on Parade and continues with Riverfest at Snake River Landing, where families can enjoy food, entertainment, community booths, children’s activities and local vendors.

Riverfest concludes before the fireworks begin, giving families time to find their viewing areas and prepare for the 10:03 p.m. show.

Free Parking for Attendees

Parking for the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration is free.

This year, the field previously used for RV parking will be used for passenger vehicles instead, creating more free parking spaces for families attending the event. As a result, RV parking will not be available at Snake River Landing for the 2026 celebration. The change will make it easier for more guests to park near the event.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to review the parking maps and traffic details ahead of time at freedomcelebration.com/parking. The maps help attendees choose a parking area based on the direction they plan to travel after the fireworks.

Melaleuca expresses sincere appreciation to local law enforcement, first responders, community partners and volunteers who help make this celebration safe, organized and successful year after year.
