Rules Summary:

  1. Essay Contest is open to legal residents of the United States who reside in Bonneville County and who are enrolled in grades K-12 as of May 21, 2010.
  2. Essay should be neatly handwritten or typed and between 500 to 1,500 words.
  3. All entries must be received by June 15, 2010 and must include a cover sheet that lists your name, address, phone number, school, and grade and that is signed by you and your parents.
  4. A panel will judge two categories: one for grades K–6 and one for grades 7–12. One winner will be selected for each category.
  5. Submit entries by email to Melaleuca Essay or mail to:

Melaleuca, Inc.’s “Remembering America’s Heroes”
Essay Contest Official Rules

Entrant’s essay submission designates his or her full
and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these
rules, terms and conditions (“Rules”) and the decision
of Melaleuca, Inc. The Remembering America’s Heroes
Contest (“Contest”) begins at 12:01 am MDT on May 21,
2010, and ends at 11:59 pm MDT on June 15, 2010. No
entries received after 11:59 pm MDT on June 15, 2010
will be considered. This Contest is sponsored and run by
Melaleuca, Inc.
(1) Eligibility: The Contest is offered to any person who were enrolled as a
school student in grades Kindergarten – 12 in any private or public elementary
school, middle school, junior high school or high school as of May 21, 2010,
who is a legal resident of the United States residing in Bonneville County, Idaho.
Employees, independent contractors, and management of Melaleuca, Inc., its
affiliates, subsidiaries, and immediate family members and persons living in
the same household of said people are not eligible to participate in the Contest.
Eligibility is subject to verification.
(2) How to Enter: Entrants are to: Write an essay of between 500 to 1,500
words in response to one of the following questions: Who do you remember
for their sacrifice in making America great and why? How do I honor those
who have helped America either gain or maintain its freedom? Entries must
be submitted by email to essay@freedomcelebration.com or by mail to
Remembering America’s Heroes Essay Contest, 3910 S. Yellowstone Hwy.,
Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402. All entries must be accompanied by a separate
cover sheet that lists the entrant’s full name, address, phone number, school,
and grade and must be signed by the entrant and the entrant’s parent or legal
guardian. Limit one entry per person.
(3) Public Domain: Entrant must be the sole creator of the essay. Use of
images and works in the public domain may be incorporated into entries as
noted sources. However, materials that violate the copyrights of any third party
may not be used. Melaleuca is not responsible for late, lost, spam-filtered,
stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete entries. Incomplete entries
are considered void. All essays may be published in whole or in part for
publicity purposes.
(4) Plagiarism: The unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and
thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own
original work. Please use common sense when creating the content. Melaleuca
reserves the right to disqualify any entry it deems inappropriate.
(5) Prizes: Two (2) scholarship winners will be chosen to win a one-time
scholarship award of $500 towards their own personal scholarship. This
scholarship check will be mailed directly to the student and is to be used for
educational purposes only. Winners will also receive live on-stage recognition
at the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration and a 4-pack of tickets to the Melaleuca
Freedom Celebration (valued at $65) to be held on July 3, 2010. The winners’
names will be posted at the www.freedomcelebration.com website and in the
Idaho Falls Post-Register. Odds of winning depend upon the number of entries
received. Prizes are nontransferable.
(6) Winners: The two (2) winners will be selected by the end of June, 2010.
A panel of judges will evaluate all eligible essays based on the following criteria:
Original thinking - 30 points
Relevance and Content - 40 points
Writing quality - 30 points
The potential winner will be notified by e-mail, telephone, regular U.S. postal
mail, or by overnight carrier within approximately three (3) business days of
the selection. If a potential winner cannot be contacted after reasonable effort
within two (2) days after the first attempt to contact him/her, this will result in
forfeiture of the prize and an alternate entrant will be selected in his/her place
from among all eligible entries received during the registration time frame.
Potential winners must comply with all terms and conditions of these Official
Rules and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements listed.
The scholarship award will be paid directly to the winner. Odds of winning
depend on the number of eligible entries received. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND
LOCAL TAXES, AND ANY OTHER COSTS AND EXPENSES, ASSOCIATED
WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF THE PRIZE ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY
OF THE WINNER. The scholarship may be tax free if the recipient meets all IRS
requirements. Prize is awarded WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, express
or implied, without limitation. If the winner chooses not to accept his/her prize,
an alternate winner may be chosen.
(7) Terms & Conditions: By participating, entrants agree that Melaleuca is not
responsible or liable for, and shall be pardoned from: I. telephone, electronic,
hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions,
failures, or difficulties of any kind; II. Any condition caused by natural events
beyond the control of Melaleuca that may cause the Program to be disrupted
or corrupted; III. Any printing or typographical errors in any materials
associated with the Program; IV. Melaleuca reserves the right to suspend or
cancel the Contest at any time if a computer virus, bug, or other technical
problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Contest.
V. Acceptance of a prize shall constitute the winner’s acceptance of use of
their name, voice, opinions, and prize information for promotional purposes
in any media, worldwide, without limitation and without further payment or
consideration, except where prohibited by law.
(8) Hold Harmless: By participating in the Contest the entrant agrees to
hold harmless Melaleuca, Inc., its owners, employees, agents and affiliated
companies and the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration from any claim or cause
of action arising out of participation in the contest or receipt or use of any prize
either directly or indirectly.
